| 3. Formal Translation But if the sun has risen upon him, bloodguilt shall rest on the one who struck him; the thief must make full restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. |
| 3. Dynamic Translation If daylight has already come when the thief is struck, then the one who killed him is guilty of bloodshed; the thief must make full restitution. But if he has nothing, he must be sold. |
