Exegesis
Two parallel prohibitions follow: lo yiggashu {לֹא יִגָּשׁוּ | lō yiqqāšû} ‘shall not approach’ and lo yaʿălû {לֹא יַעֲלוּ | lō yaʿălû} ‘shall not go up’ with immo {עִמּוֹ | ʿimmô} ‘with him’. This syntactic parallelism contrasts Moses’ unique mediatorial role with the community’s exclusion.
