Exegesis
The verse closes with ve-ha-aretz tihyeh shemamah {וְהָאָ֖רֶץ תִּהְיֶ֥ה שְׁמָמָֽה | wə-hā-ʾāreṣ tihyeh šəmāmāh} ‘and the land will be desolate’, using a Qal imperfect to denote a future state.
