1. Formal Translation
Now while Ezra was praying and while he was confessing, weeping and falling down before the house of God {ha-Elohim, Divine Presence}, a very large assembly from Israel—men and women and children—gathered to him, for the people wept with a great weeping.
1. Dynamic Translation
Ezra was praying and confessing; he wept as he lay face down before God’s house {ha-Elohim, True God}. A huge crowd from Israel—men, women, and children—came and surrounded him, because the people were weeping bitterly.
