Ezra 10:2:1וַיַּעַן֩vayaanand he answered
Ezra 10:2:2שְׁכַנְיָ֨הshekhanyaShecaniah Ezra 10:2:3בֶן־יְחִיאֵ֜לbenyekhielson of Jehiel Ezra 10:2:4מִבְּנֵ֤יmibbenefrom the sons of Ezra 10:2:5עולםolamOlam Ezra 10:2:6עֵילָם֙elamElam Ezra 10:2:7וַיֹּ֣אמֶרvayomerand he said Ezra 10:2:8לְעֶזְרָ֔אleezrato Ezra Ezra 10:2:9אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙anakhnuwe Ezra 10:2:10מָעַ֣לְנוּmaalnuwe acted unfaithfully Ezra 10:2:11בֵאלֹהֵ֔ינוּbeelohenuagainst our God Ezra 10:2:12וַנֹּ֛שֶׁבvannoshevand we have made dwell or caused to dwell Ezra 10:2:13נָשִׁ֥יםnashimwomen Ezra 10:2:14נָכְרִיּ֖וֹתnakhriyotforeign Ezra 10:2:15מֵעַמֵּ֣יmeammefrom the peoples of Ezra 10:2:16הָאָ֑רֶץhaaretsthe land Ezra 10:2:17וְעַתָּ֛הveataand now Ezra 10:2:18יֵשׁ־מִקְוֶ֥הyeshmikvethere is hope Ezra 10:2:19לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לleyisraelfor Israel Ezra 10:2:20עַל־זֹֽאת׃alzotconcerning this
2. Formal Translation
And Shekaniah son of Jehiel, from the sons of Elam, answered Ezra and said, “We have acted unfaithfully against our God {Eloheinu, Covenant Authority} and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this.”
2. Dynamic Translation
Then Shekaniah, the son of Jehiel, from Elam’s family line, spoke to Ezra, “We have been unfaithful to our God {Eloheinu, Faithful Redeemer} by taking women from the peoples of this land as wives. Even so, there is still hope for Israel in this matter.”
