Ezra 8:22:2בֹ֗שְׁתִּיvoshtiI was ashamed Ezra 8:22:3לִשְׁא֤וֹלlisheolto ask Ezra 8:22:4מִן־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙minhamelekhfrom the king Ezra 8:22:5חַ֣יִלkhayila force Ezra 8:22:6וּפָרָשִׁ֔יםufarashimand horsemen Ezra 8:22:7לְעָזְרֵ֥נוּleazerenuto help us Ezra 8:22:8מֵאוֹיֵ֖בmeoyevfrom an enemy Ezra 8:22:9בַּדָּ֑רֶךְbadarekhon the way Ezra 8:22:10כִּֽי־אָמַ֨רְנוּkiamarnufor we had said Ezra 8:22:11לַמֶּ֜לֶךְlamelekhto the king Ezra 8:22:12לֵאמֹ֗רleemorsaying Ezra 8:22:13יַד־אֱלֹהֵ֤ינוּyadelohenuthe hand of our God Ezra 8:22:14עַל־כָּל־מְבַקְשָׁיו֙alkolmevakeshavis on all his seekers Ezra 8:22:15לְטוֹבָ֔הletovafor good Ezra 8:22:16וְעֻזּ֣וֹveuzoand his strength Ezra 8:22:17וְאַפּ֔וֹveapoand his anger Ezra 8:22:18עַ֖לalupon Ezra 8:22:19כָּל־עֹזְבָֽיו׃kolozevavall who forsake him
22. Formal Translation
Because I was ashamed to ask the king for a military force and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, for we had said to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all who seek Him for good, but His strength and His anger are against all who forsake Him.”
22. Dynamic Translation
I felt too ashamed to request soldiers and cavalry from the king to protect us from enemies on our journey, because we had told the king, “The hand of our God is with everyone who seeks Him for good, but His power and anger are against all who forsake Him.”
