7. Formal Translation
Joseph saw his brothers and recognized them, but he treated them like strangers and spoke harshly to them. He asked, “Where have you come from?” They replied, “From the land of Canaan, to buy food.”
7. Dynamic Translation
When Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them at once, but he pretended not to know them and spoke to them roughly. “Where are you from?” he demanded. They answered, “We have come from the land of Canaan to buy food.”
