Exegesis

This is followed by veyad‘u mitsrayim {וְיָדְעוּ מִצְרַיִם | wə-yā-ḏə-ʿū miṣ-rā-yim} ‘and they will know Egypt,’ where et-yehōwāh {אֶת־יְהוָה | ʾet-yə-hō-wāh} marks the direct object, emphasizing personal knowledge of the LORD.

The subsequent vow formula wə-nā-ḏə-rū-nē-der la-yə-hō-wāh wə-šil-lē-mū {וְנָדְרוּ־נֵדֶר לַיהוָה וְשִׁלֵּמוּ | wə-nā-ḏə-rū-nē-der la-yə-hō-wāh wə-šil-lē-mū} ‘and they will vow a vow to the LORD and fulfill it’ closes with a performative action, linking promise and completion.
