1 In those days, Hezekiah became sick unto death. Isaiah the son of Amoz, the prophet, came to him and said, “Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Ruler}: Set your house {bayit: household domain} in order, for you shall die and you will not live.”
2 And Hezekiah{khizqiyahu: God strengthens} turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD{YHWH, Prayer Receiver}.
3 And he said, “O now, LORD {YHWH, Life Sustainer}, remember now what I have walked before You in truth {emet: faithfulness} and with a perfect heart, and I have done what is good in Your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept with great weeping.
4 And the word of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Messenger} came to Isaiah {Yeshayahu: LORD’s salvation}, saying,
5 Go and say to Hezekiah, “Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Miracle Worker}, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer {tefillah: heartfelt plea}; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your days.”
6 And from the hand {kaf: power and control} of the king of Assyria I will deliver you and this city, and I will defend {ganoti: protective guardianship} this city.
7 And this shall be the sign {ot: sign} to you from the LORD {YHWH, Promise Fulfiller} that the LORD will do the thing He has spoken.
8 Behold, I {YHWH, Sign-Giver} restore the shadow of the steps {ma’alot: measuring increments} that has gone down on the steps of Ahaz by the sun, back ten steps. And the sun returned ten steps on the steps that it had gone down.
9 The writing {miktav: official record} of Hezekiah, king of Judah {melek-yehudah: Davidic ruler}, when he was sick and he lived from his sickness.
10 I said, “In the midst of my days{bidmi: midst-of-days}, I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived{pukkadti: cut short} of the remainder of my years.”
11 I said, “I will not see Yah {Yah, Covenant Life Giver}, Yah, in the land of the living; I will no longer look upon mankind among the inhabitants of the world {chadel: passing realm}.”
12 My dwelling has departed and been removed from me like a shepherd’s tent; like a weaver{oreg: life-shaper} I have rolled up my life, and He{YHWH, Life Ender} cuts me off from the loom; from day until night You bring me to an end.
13 I calmed myself until morning; like a lion, thus he shatters all my bones—from day until night, You {YHWH, Sovereign Ender} bring me to an end {tashlimeni: finish my existence}.
14 Like a swallow or crane {agur: marsh bird}, so I chirp; I moan like a dove. My eyes fail as I look upward. Lord {Adonai, Supplication Hearer}, I am oppressed—be my guarantor.
15 What shall I say? He {YHWH, Promise Fulfiller} has both spoken to me and Himself has done it. I will walk humbly all my years because of the bitterness {mar: deep anguish} of my soul.
16 Lord {Adonai, Supreme Healer}, by these things they live, and in all these is the life of my spirit {ruach: inner breath}; and You restore me, and You cause me to live.
17 Behold, for peace there was bitterness to me, bitterness; but You {YHWH, Deliverer} have held fast my soul {nefesh: living being} from the pit of destruction, for You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
18 For Sheol {she’ol: place of the dead} will not thank You {YHWH, Sovereign King}; death will not praise You. Those who go down to the pit will not hope for Your faithfulness.
19 The living, the living—he will thank You {YHWH, Life-Restorer}, as I do this day. A father makes known to sons Your truth {amittekha: covenant fidelity}.
20 The LORD {YHWH, Deliverer} is the one who will save me. Therefore, we will play my songs {neginah: instrumental music} all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
21 And Isaiah {Yeshayahu: Prophet Messenger} said, “Let them take a lump of figs {te'enim: fruit used in healing} and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.”
22 And Hezekiah said, “What is the sign {ot: confirming evidence} that I shall go up to the house of the LORD {YHWH, House Protector}?”
