1 At that time, Merodach-baladan, son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift{minchah: diplomatic tribute} to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick and had recovered{wayyehezaq: regained strength}.
2 Hezekiah was pleased with them and showed them the house of his precious things {nekhotot: personal treasures}, the silver, the gold, the spices, and the good oil, along with all the house of his armor, and everything in his treasuries; nothing in his house or in all his dominion {memshalto: sphere of rule} was withheld from them.
3 Then Isaiah the prophet {navi: God’s spokesman} came to King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men speak about, and where did they come from to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They came to me from a far land, from Babylon {Bavel: world power}.”
4 And he said, “What have they looked at in your house?” And Hezekiah {chizqiyahu: Yah Strengthens} said, “They saw everything that is in my house; I showed them all of it—there was nothing in my treasuries {otzrotai: royal storehouses} that I did not show them.”
5 And Isaiah {Yeshayahu: Yahweh is salvation} said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Supreme Commander}.”
6 Behold, the days are coming when everything that is in your house and what your fathers have stored up {atzru: accumulated valuables} to this day will be taken away to Babylon; nothing will remain, says the LORD {YHWH, Prophetic Declarer}.
7 And of your sons who will come from you and whom you will beget, they will take them away and they will become eunuchs {səriṣîm: court eunuchs} in the palace of the king of Babylon {Bāvel: capital of ancient Mesopotamia}.
8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “Good is the word of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Speaker} which you have spoken.” And he said, “For there will be peace and truth {emet: Reliability, Faithfulness} in my days.”
