1 Ah! Every thirsty one who thirsts{tsame: craves refreshment}, come to the waters; and whoever has no money, come, buy and eat{ekholu: sustaining meal}. Come, buy without money and without price, wine and milk.
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread {lechem: sustenance}, and your labor for what does not satisfy? Listen diligently to Me {the One who truly feeds you}, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.
3 Incline your ear and come to Me {elai: the One offering life}; listen, so your soul may live. And I will make with you an everlasting covenant—the mercies {chasdei: steadfast kindnesses} of David.
4 Behold, I have given him as a witness {ed: public witness} to the peoples, a leader and a commander {metsavveh: order-giver} to the peoples.
5 Behold, you will call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you will run to you, because of the LORD your God {YHWH eloheicha, Covenant Exalter} and for the Holy One {kadosh yisrael: unique sanctifier} of Israel; for He has glorified you.
6 Seek the LORD {YHWH, Compassionate Preserver} while He may be found {b’hemmatzo: presently discoverable}; call upon Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD {YHWH, Merciful Redeemer}, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God {Eloheinu, Forgiving One}, for He will abundantly pardon {lisloach: complete pardon}.
8 For My thoughts {machshevotai: purposeful designs} are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, declares the LORD {YHWH, Higher Counselor}.
9 For as the heavens {shamayim: cosmic expanse} are higher than the earth, so are My ways {derakhai: moral paths} higher than your ways, and My thoughts are higher than your thoughts.
10 For just as the rain and the snow come down from the heavens {shamayim: celestial realm} and do not return there, but instead drench the earth and cause it to bring forth and to sprout, and give seed {zera: generative potential} to the sower and bread to the eater.
11 So shall My word {what I speak} that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish what I desire {chafatzti: that which pleases Me} and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
12 For you will go out with joy {simchah: exuberant celebration} and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills will break out {yiftzechu: sudden bursting} before you in song, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn bush, the cypress will come up; instead, and instead of the brier, the myrtle will come up. And it will be to the LORD {YHWH, Glory Receiver} for a name {shem: public honor}, for an everlasting sign; it will not be cut off.
