1 Lift your voice in song, barren woman {akarah: one who has not borne}, you who never bore a child; burst into singing and cry out, you who never labored in birth. For the children of the desolate will be more than the children of the married woman, says the LORD {YHWH, Restorer of Hope}.
2 Make more room where you pitch your tent{ohel: dwelling shelter}, and let the curtains of your dwellings be spread out wide. Do not restrain yourself; lengthen your cords and make your stakes{yetedot: support pegs} firm.
3 For you will break forth to the right and to the left, and your offspring {zeraʿ: covenant posterity} will inherit the nations, and they will make the desolate {neshamot: ruined settlements} cities inhabited again.
4 Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; and do not be humiliated {tikkalmi: public dishonor}, for you will not be disgraced. For the shame of your youth you will forget, and the reproach of your widowhood {almanutayikh: social isolation} you will not remember anymore.
5 For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tseva’ot, Commander of Armies} is His name, and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He shall be called the God of all the earth {elohei kol haaretz: sovereign over all lands}.
6 For the LORD {YHWH, Restorer of the Forsaken} has called you as a woman forsaken and grieving in spirit and as the wife of your youth who was rejected, says your God {Elohayikh, Covenant Redeemer}.
7 For a brief moment I {YHWH, Disciplining Sovereign} forsook you, but with great mercies {rachamim: Abundant Compassion} I will gather you back.
8 In a surge of wrath I hid My face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you, says your Redeemer {go’el: one who rescues} the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Restorer}.
9 For this is to Me {YHWH, Oath-Binding Lord} like the waters of Noah {mei Noach: deluge judgment}, when I swore that the waters of Noah would not pass over the earth again; so I have sworn to turn from wrath against you and from rebuking you.
10 For the mountains may depart and the hills may be removed, yet My kindness will not depart from you, nor will the covenant of My peace be removed, says the LORD {YHWH, Ever-Faithful}, your Compassionate One {merachamekh: the One who shows mercy}.
11 O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted, behold, I {YHWH, Sovereign Restorer} will lay your stones with antimony {pukh: dark mineral paste}, and will set your foundations with sapphires.
12 And I {YHWH, Sovereign Restorer} will set your pinnacles {shimshotayikh: roof peaks} with agate and your gates with carbuncles and all your borders with stones of delight.
13 The LORD {YHWH, Divine Teacher} will instruct all your children, and your children will enjoy great peace {shelom: wholeness and well-being}.
14 In righteousness {tsedaqah: covenant justice} you will be established; be far from oppression {osheq: unjust exploitation}, for you will not fear; and be far from terror, for it will not come near you.
15 Behold, if they gather together{gor: band together}, it is not by Me{YHWH, Divine Defender}; whoever gathers against you will fall because of you.
16 Behold, I {YHWH, Master Craftsman} have created the smith who blows the coal in the fire and produces a tool for his work; and I have also created the destroyer {mashchit: agent of ruin} to bring devastation.
17 No weapon {kli: instrument of attack} formed against you will succeed, and every tongue that rises against you for judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Defender}, and their righteousness is from Me, declares the LORD.
