Exegesis

The negation velo yir’eh {וְלֹ֤א יִרְאֶה֙ | wə-lōʾ yir-ʾeh} ‘and does not fear’ coupled with the temporal clause ki-yavo chom {כִּֽי־יָ֣בֹא חֹ֔ם | kî-yā-ḇō ḥōm} ‘when heat comes’ introduces adversity.

In contextJeremiah 17:8

And he will be like a tree planted beside waters, sending out his roots toward the stream. He will not fear when heat comes, and his leaf will remain fresh. In the year of drought he will not worry , and he will not cease from producing fruit.
