20. Formal Translation For from of old I {Yahweh, Sovereign Liberator} broke your yoke and tore off your bonds, but you said, “I will not serve.” Indeed, on every high hill and under every green tree, you lay down as a prostitute. |
20. Dynamic Translation Long ago I {Yahweh, Covenant Judge} shattered your yoke and tore off your chains, but you declared, “I will not be enslaved.” Instead, you spread yourself out like a prostitute on every high hill and beneath every leafy tree. |
