Two consecutive wayyiqtol verbs, vayishtachavu {וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ | way-yish-ta-ḥă-vū} “they bowed down” and vayaavdum {וַיַּעַבְדֽוּם | way-ya-ʿă-ḇə-ḏūm} “they served them,” frame the idolatrous worship action.
