Job 23TAB

Then Job {Iyov: persecuted sufferer} answered {anah: responded promptly} and said,

Even today my complaint {meri: bitter resistance} persists; my hand is heavy upon my groaning {anchati: deep sighing}.

Oh, that I knew where I might find Him {Elohim, Hidden Judge}; I would come even to His seat {tekhunato: court-seat}.

I would arrange {e’erkha: prepare methodically} my case before Him, and I would fill my mouth with arguments {tochekhot: reasoned points}.

I would know the words {milim: spoken reply} He {eloah, Righteous Judge} would answer me, and I would understand what He would say to me.

Would He {Elohim, Supreme Arbiter} contend with me with great power {koach: forceful might}? No; rather, He would give heed to me.

There an upright{yashar: clean integrity} man could contend with Him{Eloah, Hearing Judge}, and I would escape forever from my Judge.

Behold, I go forward {qedem: toward the east} but He {God, Hidden One} is not there; and backward, I do not perceive him.

On the left hand {semol: turning side}, when He works, I do not grasp Him; on the right hand He covers {ya’atof: conceals} Himself, and I do not see Him.

For He {Eloah, All-Knowing Tester} knows the way I am taking; when He has tested me, I will come out like gold {zahav: precious purity}.

My foot has held fast to His steps{ba’ashuro: footprints}; I have kept to His way and have not turned aside{at: deviated from the path}.

I have not departed from the commandment {mitsvat: spoken decree} of His {God, Divine Speaker} lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my portion of food.

But He {YHWH, Immoveable Judge} is solitary, and who can turn Him back? Whatever His soul {nefesh: innermost being} desires, He does.

For He {Sovereign Upholder} will fulfill what is appointed {chukki: designated portion} for me, and many such matters are with Him.

Therefore, I tremble before Him {YHWH, Sovereign Judge}; when I reflect {etbonen: intense deliberation}, I am afraid of Him.

And God {El, Sovereign Disposer} has made my heart soft, and the Almighty {Shaddai, Awe-Inspirer} has terrified me.

For I was not silenced by the darkness {khoshekh: adversity}, nor was my face covered by deep darkness {ophel: crushing distress}.
