Jonah 3:8:1וְיִתְכַּסּ֣וּveyitkhasuand let them be covered
Jonah 3:8:2שַׂקִּ֗יםsakkimwith sackcloths Jonah 3:8:3הָֽאָדָם֙haadamthe man or humankind Jonah 3:8:4וְהַבְּהֵמָ֔הvehabbehemaand the beast Jonah 3:8:5וְיִקְרְא֥וּveyikreuand let them call Jonah 3:8:6אֶל־אֱלֹהִ֖יםelelohimto God Jonah 3:8:7בְּחָזְקָ֑הbekhazekawith might or strongly Jonah 3:8:8וְיָשֻׁ֗בוּveyashuvuand let them turn back Jonah 3:8:9אִ֚ישׁisheach man Jonah 3:8:10מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹmiddarkofrom his way Jonah 3:8:11הָֽרָעָ֔הharaathe evil {way} Jonah 3:8:12וּמִן־הֶחָמָ֖סuminhekhamasand from the violence Jonah 3:8:13אֲשֶׁ֥רasherwhich Jonah 3:8:14בְּכַפֵּיהֶֽם׃bekappehemin their palms or hands
8. Formal Translation
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and let them call out with strength to God {Elohim, Merciful Judge}, and let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence in their hands.
8. Dynamic Translation
Let people and animals wear sackcloth and urgently call out to God {Elohim, Compassionate Responder}. Everyone should turn from their evil ways and from the violence in their hands.
