Exegesis

The Qal imperfect tashuvu {תָּשֻׁבוּ | tāšûwû} ‘you will turn back’ with hayom {הַיּוֹם | ha-yôm} ‘today’ issues an immediate warning of apostasy.

The conjunction vehayah {וְהָיָה | wə-hāyâh} ‘and it shall be’ introduces a protasis leading to timredu hayom bayehovah {תִּמְרְדּוּ הַיּוֹם בַּיהוָה | timrêḏû ha-yôm ba-yəhō-wāh} ‘if you rebel today against the LORD’.

In contextJoshua 22:18

Are you turning aside today from after the LORD ? If you rebel today against the LORD, tomorrow He will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
