The negative conjunction velo amru {וְלֹא אָמְרוּ | wə-lōʾ āmərû} ‘and they did not say’ introduces coordinated purpose clauses with la‘alot {לַעֲלוֹת | la-ʿālôt} ‘to go up’ and le-shakhet {לְשַׁחֵת | lə-šāḥēṯ} ‘to destroy.’
