20. Formal Translation And the men of Ai turned around and looked, and behold, the smoke of the city was ascending to the heavens, and there was no strength in them to flee this way or that. Then the people who had fled to the wilderness turned back against the pursuers. |
20. Dynamic Translation The men of Ai looked back and saw the smoke of the city rising into the sky. They had no chance to escape in any direction. The people who had fled toward the wilderness turned back against their pursuers. |
