5. Formal Translation And the men of Gilead took control of the fords of the Jordan against Ephraim. And it happened that when the fugitives of Ephraim said, “Let me cross,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” And he said, “No.” |
5. Dynamic Translation The Gileadites secured the Jordan crossings so that survivors from Ephraim could not slip through. Whenever a man fleeing from Ephraim said, “Let me go over”, the Gileadites questioned him, “Are you from Ephraim?” And he replied, “No.” |
