   and he said messenger of the LORD to Manoah if you detain me I will not eat of your bread or food and if you make a burnt offering to the LORD offer it up for did not know Manoah that a messenger of the LORD he was

Exegesis

The clause kî-lō-yāḏaʿ mānōaḥ {כִּי־לֹא־יָדַע מָנ֔וֹחַ | kî lō-yāḏaʿ mānōaḥ} ‘for Manoah did not know’ uses the perfect to denote past ignorance, culminating in kî-malʾâkh YHWH hûʾ {כִּי־מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה הוּא׃ | kî-malʾâkh Yəhōwâ hûʾ} ‘that he was the angel of the LORD’.
