The vav-consecutive sequence vayittenah {וַיִּתְּנָהּ | wayyiṯnâh} ‘and he gave her,’ vaya’alu {וַיַּעֲל֣וּ | wayyaʿalû} ‘and they went up,’ and vayisrefu {וַיִּשְׂרְפ֥וּ | wayyisrefû} ‘and they burned’ builds narrative momentum toward the violent climax, while the direct object markers et and ve-et highlight the victims of the burning.
