Exegesis

The construct chain chameshet ha’anashim {חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים | ḥă-me-šet hā-’ănā-šîm} ‘five of the men’ is modified by the participle hahalokhim {הַהֹלְכִים֮ | ha-hō-lə-ḵîm} ‘those walking’ and the infinitive leraggel {לְרַגֵּ֣ל | lə-ra-gēl} ‘to spy out,’ creating an agent-purpose clause.

In contextJudges 18:17

And five of the men who went to spy out the land went up; they came there and took the carved image , the ephod, the teraphim, and the cast image. Then the priest stood at the entrance of the gate with the six hundred armed men.
