Exegesis

The phrase vayittnu lahem hannashim asher ḥiyu {וַיִּתְּנוּ לָהֶם הַנָּשִׁים אֲשֶׁר חִיּוּ | wayyiṯnû lāhem han-nāšîm ’ăšer ḥîyû} ‘and they gave them the women whom they had kept alive’ contains a relative clause with ḥiyu highlighting the women’s preservation.
