Exegesis

The idiom ve-natatti panai {וְנָתַתִּי פָנַי | wə-nāṭâttî panāy} ‘and I will set My face’ expresses divine opposition against the blood-consuming nefesh {נֶפֶשׁ | nep̄eš} ‘life essence.’
