Exegesis

The verse begins with the contrasted subject hymeis de ouch houtōs {ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως | hymeîs dè oukh hoútōs}, “but you, not in this way,” which marks a sharp break from the preceding description of Gentile rulers. The fronted pronoun hymeis gives emphasis to the disciples as a distinct community.
