4. Formal Translation
Suppose Edom says, “We have been devastated, but we will return and rebuild the ruins.” The LORD of hosts {Yahweh Tsevaot, Supreme Commander} declares, “Let them rebuild; I will tear it down. They will be called a territory of wickedness and a people with whom the LORD is angry forever.”
4. Dynamic Translation
Even if Edom declares, “We have been crushed yet we will come back and restore the ruins,” the LORD of hosts {Yahweh Tsevaot, Leader of Armies} replies, “They may rebuild, but I will overthrow them, and they will become a land of wickedness and a people always under the LORD’s anger.”
