| 8. Formal Translation The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it goes into destruction. And those who dwell on the earth—whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world—will marvel, seeing the beast, that it was, and is not, and will be present. |

People living on the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will be amazed when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will be present. |
