The kings of the earth (hoi basileis tēs gēs {οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς | hoî ba-si-leîs tês gês}) are said to have eporneusan {ἐπόρνευσαν | e-pór-neu-san} ‘committed sexual immorality’ with her, extending the metaphor to political alliance, while the merchants of the earth (hoi emporoi tēs gēs {οἱ ἔμποροι τῆς γῆς | ém-po-roi tês gês}) have eploutēsan {ἐπλούτησαν | ep-lou-tē-san} ‘become rich’ by ek tēs dynameōs tou strēnous autēs {ἐκ τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ στρήνους αὐτῆς | ek tēs dy-ná-me-ōs tou strē-nous au-tēs}, where dynameōs ‘power’ and strēnous ‘luxury’ convey the force and extravagance fueling their wealth.
