Exegesis

The final aorists ézēsan kai ebasíleusan metà toû khristōû {ἔζησαν καὶ ἐβασίλευσαν μετὰ τοῦ χριστοῦ | é-zē-san kaí e-ba-sí-leu-san me-tà toû chri-stôu} “they lived and reigned with Christ” convey eschatological vindication over chília étē {χίλια ἔτη | khí-li-a é-tē} “a thousand years.” English punctuation divides the Greek coordination to preserve the progression from vision to vindication to reign.

In contextRevelation 20:4

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God , and also those who had not worshiped the beast nor its image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
