The repetition of wayyishma {וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע | wayyišmaʿ} ‘and he heard’ and wayyeitze {וַיֵּצֵ֖א | wayyēṣēʾ} ‘and he went out’ sustains narrative momentum and underscores David’s immediate response.
