| 2. Formal Translation And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed me kindness.” Then David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. The servants of David went to the land of the Ammonites to comfort Hanun. |
| 2. Dynamic Translation David decided, “I will be kind to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father was kind to me.” So David sent envoys to offer comfort to Hanun about his father. When David’s servants arrived in the country of the Ammonites, they went to Hanun to comfort him. |
