1. Formal Translation And the sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn (for he was the firstborn; but when he defiled his father’s beds, his birthright was transferred to the sons of Joseph, son of Israel); thus he was not accounted among the firstborn. |
1. Dynamic Translation These are the sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn; yet because he defiled his father’s beds, his birthright went to Joseph’s sons, and Reuben was no longer recorded as the firstborn. |
