1 Samuel 12:19:1וַיֹּאמְר֨וּvayomeruand they said
1 Samuel 12:19:2כָל־הָעָ֜םkholhaamall the people 1 Samuel 12:19:3אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֗לelshemuelto Samuel 1 Samuel 12:19:4הִתְפַּלֵּ֧לhitpalelpray 1 Samuel 12:19:5בְּעַד־עֲבָדֶ֛יךָbeadavadekhafor your servants 1 Samuel 12:19:6אֶל־יְהוָ֥הelyahwehto the LORD 1 Samuel 12:19:7אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָelohekhayour God 1 Samuel 12:19:8וְאַל־נָמ֑וּתvealnamutso that we may not die 1 Samuel 12:19:9כִּֽי־יָסַ֤פְנוּkiyasafnufor we have added 1 Samuel 12:19:10עַל־כָּל־חַטֹּאתֵ֙ינוּ֙alkholkhatotenuto all our sins 1 Samuel 12:19:11רָעָ֔הraahevil 1 Samuel 12:19:12לִשְׁאֹ֥לlisholto ask 1 Samuel 12:19:13לָ֖נוּlanufor ourselves 1 Samuel 12:19:14מֶֽלֶךְ׃סmelekha king
19. Formal Translation
And all the people said to Samuel, “Pray on behalf of your servants to the LORD your God {Yahweh Eloheikha, Intercessory Judge}, so that we do not die; for we have added this evil to all our sins by asking for a king for ourselves.”
19. Dynamic Translation
Then everyone pleaded with Samuel, “Please pray to the LORD your God {Yahweh Eloheikha, Helper in crisis} for us, your servants, so that we will not die. We have piled this evil on top of all our sins by demanding a king for ourselves.”
