18. Formal Translation
And it happened, as he mentioned the ark of God {Elohim, Divine Judge}, that he fell from the chair backward by the side of the gate, his neck was broken, and he died, because he was old and heavy; and he had judged Israel forty years.
18. Dynamic Translation
When the ark of God {Elohim, Mighty Protector} was mentioned, Eli fell backward off his chair by the gate, broke his neck, and died. He was old and heavy, and he had judged Israel for forty years.
