Exegesis

The verse opens with two coordinated subjects, melekh yisraʼel {מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל | mèleḵ yiśrāʼēl} ‘sovereign ruler’ and viyehoshaphat melekh-yehudah {וִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֡ה | wə-yĕhôšāp̄āṭ mèleḵ yĕhû-ḏāh} ‘Jehoshaphat, the Judahite monarch’, linked by the conjunction vav.
