Exegesis

The narrative then advances with the vav-consecutive wayelekh {וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ | wayyēleḵ} ‘and he went’, a conventional euphemism for death; the following phrase belo chemdah {בְּלֹא חֶמְדָּ֔ה | bə-lōʾ ḥemdāh} ‘without desire’ functions adverbially to state the social result of his death: he was not the object of longing or honor.
