The result clause vayashav bevoshet panim leartzo {וַיָּשָׁב֩ בְּבֹ֨שֶׁת פָּנִ֜ים לְאַרְצ֗וֹ | wayyāšāḇ bə-vōšeṯ pānīm lə-ʾarṣō} ‘and he returned in shame of face to his land’ conveys his humiliation.
