8. Formal Translation
For we do not want you, brothers, to remain unaware of the affliction that happened to us in Asia; we were weighed down beyond measure, beyond our strength, so that we gave up hope even of life.
8. Dynamic Translation
We want you to understand, brothers, what happened to us in Asia: the suffering was so severe that we were burdened to an extreme degree, beyond our strength, and we even lost hope of staying alive.
