35. Formal Translation And all the people came to refresh David with bread while it was still day. Then David swore, saying, “Thus may God {Elohim, Supreme Judge} do to me and even more if before the sun’s setting I taste bread or anything at all.” |
35. Dynamic Translation Everyone came to urge David to eat food while there was still daylight, but David took a solemn oath: “May God {Elohim, Righteous Judge} deal with me severely if I taste bread or anything at all before the sun goes down!” |
