33. Formal Translation
But from the crowd they brought forward Alexander, the Jews having put him forward; and Alexander, having motioned with his hand, wanted to make a defense to the crowd.
33. Dynamic Translation
Some people from the crowd pushed Alexander to step forward—the Jews had urged him ahead—and Alexander, gesturing with his hand, tried to explain himself to the people.
