12. Formal Translation
Since the harbor was unsuitable for wintering, the majority decided to depart from there, hoping that somehow they might reach Phoenix and winter there—a harbor of Crete facing the southwest and the northwest.
12. Dynamic Translation
Because the port was not fit for spending the winter, most of them agreed to sail on, hoping that they might reach Phoenix and spend the winter there. That harbor on Crete faced the southwest and the northwest.
