40. Formal Translation
After cutting away the anchors, they left them in the sea; at the same time, having loosened the rudder fastenings and hoisted the foresail to the blowing wind, they made for the beach.
40. Dynamic Translation
They cut the anchors loose and left them behind in the sea. Then they untied the ropes that held the rudders and raised the front sail to catch the wind, steering toward the shore.
