Daniel 2:23ExegesisTAB

Daniel 2 : 23 Thanksgiving | Wisdom | Revelation
23. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse opens with the prepositional address lakh {לָךְ | lāḵ} ‘to you’, establishing direct communication with the divine. The compound title Elah avahati {אֱלָ֣הּ אֲבָהָתִ֗י | ʾĕlāh ʾăvāhātî} ‘God of my fathers’ situates Daniel’s prayer within his ancestral covenant. The paired Pael participles mehodea {מְהוֹדֵא | məhôdēʾ} ‘I give thanks’ and umeshabbakh {וּמְשַׁבַּח֙ | ūməšabbāḵ} ‘and I praise’ form a parallel structure emphasizing Daniel’s gratitude. The relative particle dî {דִּ֧י | dî} introduces the attribution of khokhmetha {חָכְמְתָ֛א | ḥāḵmāṯāʾ} ‘wisdom’ and ugevurta {וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א | ūgəḇûrāʾ} ‘might’ through the perfect yehavte {יְהַ֣בְתְּ | yəḥāḇt} ‘you have given’. The conjunction u-ke‘an {וּכְעַ֤ן | ū-kə‘an} ‘and now’ transitions to the Haphil perfect hodaatani {הֽוֹדַעְתַּ֙נִי֙ | hôdā‘tānî} ‘you have made known to me’ and hodaatena {הוֹדַעְתֶּֽנָא | hôdā‘tənāʾ} ‘you have made known to us’. The fused clause dî-be‘ênāʾ minnākh {דִּֽי־בְעֵ֣ינָא מִנָּ֔ךְ | dî-be‘ênāʾ minnākh} ‘which from you’ expresses Daniel’s request, while dî-millat malkāʾ {דִּֽי־מִלַּ֥ת מַלְכָּ֖א | dî-millat malkāʾ} ‘the matter of the king’ in construct form identifies the topic. The asyndetic stacking of relative clauses underscores the progressive revelation granted by the divine.
