Exegesis
The punitive Hitpaʿel tit‘avdun {תִּתְעַבְד֔וּן | tit-ʿav-dūn} signals enforced dismemberment, and u-va-teikhan nevali yit-te-shamun {וּבָתֵּיכ֖וֹן נְוָלִ֥י יִתְּשָׂמֽוּן | ū-ḇa-ṯê-ḵōn nə-wā-lî yit-te-šā-mūn} uses nevali ‘dunghill’ to convey disgrace. The translation preserves the protasis–apodosis threat structure and maintains the legal severity of the king’s ultimatum.
In context — Daniel 2:5
The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “The word from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be made into pieces, and your houses shall be set as a dunghill .”
