Source Text: Hebrew (WLC) Deuteronomy 15:17:1 ⧉וְלָקַחְתָּ֣velakakhtathen you shall take Deuteronomy 15:17:2 ⧉אֶת־הַמַּרְצֵ֗עַethammartseathe awl Deuteronomy 15:17:3 ⧉וְנָתַתָּ֤הvenatattaand put Deuteronomy 15:17:4 ⧉בְאָזְנוֹ֙veoznothrough his ear Deuteronomy 15:17:5 ⧉וּבַדֶּ֔לֶתuvadeletand into the door Deuteronomy 15:17:6 ⧉וְהָיָ֥הvehayaand he shall be Deuteronomy 15:17:7 ⧉לְךָ֖lekhato you Deuteronomy 15:17:8 ⧉עֶ֣בֶדeveda slave Deuteronomy 15:17:9 ⧉עוֹלָ֑םolamforever Deuteronomy 15:17:10 ⧉וְאַ֥ףveafand also Deuteronomy 15:17:11 ⧉לַאֲמָתְךָ֖laamatkhato your female slave Deuteronomy 15:17:12 ⧉תַּעֲשֶׂה־כֵּֽן׃taasekenyou shall do the same |
| 17. Formal Translation And you shall take the awl, pierce it through his ear into the door, and he shall be your servant forever. And you shall do the same for your maidservant. |
| 17. Dynamic Translation Then take an awl and push it through his ear into the door, and he will become your servant for life. Do the same for your female servant. |
