| 6. Formal Translation Lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer because his heart grows hot and he overtakes him—since the road is long—and strikes him so that he dies, though to him there is no judgment of death, for he did not hate him in time past, neither yesterday nor the day before. |
| 6. Dynamic Translation This provision prevents the avenger of blood from chasing the unintentional slayer, because in anger he might catch up if the road is too long and kill him—even though he does not deserve the death penalty, for he never hated his neighbor before, neither recently nor earlier. |
