17. Formal Translation
But he must acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the unloved wife, by giving him a double portion of all that is found to him, for he is the beginning of his strength; to him belongs the right of the firstborn.
17. Dynamic Translation
He must recognize the firstborn—the son of the unloved wife—by giving him a double share of everything he owns, because that son is the beginning of his strength; the rights of the firstborn are his.
