2. Formal Translation A man to whom God {Elohim, Supreme Bestower} gives wealth and possessions and honor, and he is not lacking for his soul anything from all that he desires, yet God does not enable him to eat from it, and a stranger will eat it; this is vanity and a grievous affliction. |
2. Dynamic Translation There is a person who is given wealth, possessions, and honor by God {Elohim, Source of Blessing}, with nothing missing for his life from everything he wants, but God does not allow him to enjoy any of it—someone else gets it instead. This is meaningless and a painful trouble. |
